Cai Xi

Painter, t'ai chi master, art & language instructor, and caterer of Asian cuisine, Cai Xi has been giving Chinese cultural and arts performances for more than ten years. Her residencies and workshops have collaborated with schools, colleges, early childhood, summer and teacher training programs, and community festivals. Her events have included calligraphy and action painting, folk arts and craft projects, song, movement, t'ai chi and t'ai chi sword for health, Chinese calisthenics, dance, dragon-making, mask and puppet making, and culinary arts. She has worked in film, theatre and television doing scenic painting, costume, make-up and stage design. Cai's scope includes traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, abstract performance action painting, installation work, luminous landscapes, and larger than life portraits. Her live action painting has been presented on YouTube and Flickr, in Boston and Manchester (VT), and in Brattleboro on the New England Youth Theatre stage and filmed live for New York public television and Brattleboro VT public access television. A Vermont Studio Center Fellow for July 2010, Cai has an MFA in Visual Arts from Vermont College of Fine Arts, showed her socially engage art - the Pink Slip Project - at Brattleboro Museum, and her 1979-2015 Retrospective. She also undertakes commissions for portraiture, landscapes, still life, and Chinese calligraphy and ink painting. She says: "Everyone is born an artist. Art is everywhere. Learning through art, we achieve and enrich our lives."
