Brattleboro-West Arts

Joins the VCC Open Studio Tour

2015

Brattleboro-West Arts blends its tour with statewide events

This time of year, we usually tell you to save the date for our annual open studio tour, but for 2015, there are two weekends to put on your calendar.

After six years of hosting its own open studio tour at the end of September, Brattleboro-West Arts instead will join forces this year with two established statewide tours, one May 23-24 and the other Oct. 3-4.

In deciding to collaborate with the Vermont Craft Council in its Spring and Fall Open Studio Weekends, BWA infuses the tours with its members, making the Brattleboro area a major destination with a critical mass of studios at the state’s southern gateway. At the same time, the partnership lets BWA take advantage of the VCC’s promotional efforts, freeing up energy to be spent on other priorities, such as community and educational events.

In fact, moving beyond the standalone tour that previously defined BWA to the public gives the group an opportunity to better refine its priorities as an organization. To that end, members will gather for a daylong retreat in May to chart BWA’s course as the 7-year-old arts group matures.

This Fall's tour will feature 14 artists in 12 studios and one gallery in Brattleboro, West Brattleboro and Marlboro. Of those studios, 11 are affiliated with Brattleboro-West Arts. One can download a map that includes all these participating artists here. There are enough stops to fill an entire weekend, read more about the 2015 tour here! But if you still have time, there are more studios in nearby Dover, Newfane and Townshend to the north and Wilmington to the west.
